Paine argues for morality and peace over religion and war, and for the wisdom of individuals who think for themselves. In words that are still relevant more than 200 years into the American experiment, Paine advocates for peace, moderate taxes and moderate government, and he abhors “the little barkings of scribbling and witless curs” that advocate otherwise.
